Celebrating our History - Black and Jews Together

As we welcome the month of May, we celebrate American Jewish Heritage Month—a time to honor the rich contributions of Jewish Americans to our nation’s story. At Spill the Honey, this moment invites us to reflect on one of the most powerful chapters in that history: the enduring partnership between Black and Jewish communities. It’s a shared legacy we are proud to uplift not only this month, but all year long.

At the end of May, we will commemorate Memorial Day, a time to pause and remember the bravery of Black and Jewish soldiers, along with all Allied forces, who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. Among the stories we preserve in our archives are those of William Scott, shared through the memories of his daughter, Alexis Scott. A 22-year-old soldier and photographer at Buchenwald, Scott bore witness to unimaginable horrors through his lens—a testimony that endures as powerful evidence. Together, these stories remind us of a history shaped by courage, partnership, and a commitment to justice—then and now.

Through both celebration and testimony, Spill the Honey continues to elevate and inspire the Black-Jewish Alliance of today.
